LOV 2025 inspires 86,000 visitors in Chemnitz

The Light our Vision Festival of Light Art illuminated Chemnitz for four nights last week, not only lighting up the city, but also sparking some important conversations. From 24 to 27 September 2025, around 86,000 visitors flocked to the city centre to experience the ten installations along the festival route that ran from the Roter Turm to the University Library.

The Marienplatz square behind the “Parteifalte” office complex once again took centre stage. Here, the Chronoportale – light installations created with the help of AI – drew on local people’s ideas and visions for urban development. The works visualised how this central space could be designed and utilised in the future. Many guests took the artistic installations as a jumping-off point to discuss the ongoing development of the city centre.

Despite the rainy weather, a laid-back, festival atmosphere prevailed each evening. The expansive event space allowed visitors to move around freely, without crowding, and enjoy the installations at their leisure.

Lotte Claudia Fischer, one of the initiators and Chair of Baukultur für Chemnitz e.V., the association that organises the event, draws a thoroughly positive conclusion:

“We are delighted that the visitors were taken with our ideas and once again showed such great interest in Light our Vision. By putting ideas and visions for future urban planning centre stage, we were able to spark some exciting discussions.”

Co-initiator Linda Hüttner, Deputy Chair of Baukultur für Chemnitz e. V., also emphasises the festival’s impact:

“Urban development primarily affects people.
Light our Vision has succeeded in bringing these topics to the forefront of their minds with levity, ambition and sincerity, showing them that their opinion matters.”

Whether and how the Festival will be continued in the future depends largely on financial support from sponsors and donations. The initiators would like to thank all the partners whose generosity has made it possible for Chemnitz to shine in 2025.
